Dear Style Advocate,

Thank you for your awesome fashion advice for my big night at the Inaugural Ball. I took to heart the advice you gave me after sending you a photo of my dress. Per your suggestion, I put my hair in a half-up do, and believe it totally complemented the over-the-shoulder dress. The suggestion of subtle, yet elegant jewelry was spot-on. The tennis bracelet was perfect, as were the diamond stud earrings. The silver peep toe pumps you suggested really brought out the silver top of my dress. I felt great about my outfit that night, all thanks to you. The one piece of advice I disregarded was the wrap – although I had found a lovely white fur wrap to borrow from a friend, I was uncomfortable bringing it as I heard there would not be a coat-check, and I didn’t want to be responsible for such an exquisite item (which really would have brought out the red in the dress).

I must say, I believe the most important thing you gave me was confidence. Knowing that I had my look nailed down by a professional allowed me to walk into that room with total confidence. The huge smile on my face was the final touch on the outfit. Who can find fault with a confident, smiling woman?

Ebay power

There is no question that we want to keep our retailers thriving but once in a great while isn’t it great to find that perfect find at yard sales, consignment/goodwill shops and ebay? I have a couple o things left to sell this time around on there so I can go buy some new retail things for myself. I am a firm believer in recycling especially b/c I quickly grow tire of an expensive item and need to recapture some of that cash. I was disgusted this weekend at several consignment places and thought “heck, I can sell my great items cheaper and in much better shape/quality”. However i don’t want to sort thru other people’s “junk” so I’ve decided to be an ebay seller for a commission. You send me virtual photos, I do all the work at selling the item and after ebay fees, i take 25 % and you get the rest. If the item does not sell we can choke to either realist or take to goodwill. Please consider me if you are looking for a good bargain and make sure to ask if you don’t see it on my site b/c I may very well have it. I have a LOT of handbags and shoes. Retinol Vs. Retinoid Vs. Plastic Surgery: You Decide

Lately, aging has been the big thing on my mind. I’m nearing my mid- (cough cough) 40’s and though my skin doesn’t have many fine lines (you figure it out), my eyes are in severe need of a makeover. I’m not one to hide the obvious! I’ve been seeing ads about Retinol and how it reduces fine lines, dark circles and puffiness that I’ve actually had my entire life. I decided to buy some from the drug store today and give it a try. Then I decided to read about it! Sort of reverse order but anyway…. I found out that Retinol comes from the drug Retinoid that is only a prescription medication. It was originally used for acne but was found to smooth lines, dark circles and puffiness. While Retinol will help, it’s not as strong and may take longer (up to 12 weeks to show any results) where as Retinoid will show results sooner but may be harsher on your skin. Although they are making a kinder and gentler Retinoid. I found this article a long with a few others but this is the one I chose to share. I think I will be making an appointment with my dermatologist before I decide to go under the knife to get rid of those sags and bags under my eyes first. For those of you against plastic surgery and have strong opinions, I appreciate that. However, for those of you whom have lived with a life long facial or other obvious blemish that makes you feel uncomfortable or self conscious, sometimes plastic surgery is the way you choose to turn. She is a survivor and instead of letting this horrible thing own her, she became and actress and is now starting her own foundation to help people who are sexually assaulted. The Be Your Own Superhero Foundation

Kimleigh Smith founded Embrace Your Cape Enterprises in 2009 in Los Angeles, California.

After working to help many other foundations, The Be Your Own Superhero Foundation is a dream Kimleigh has had for years to create an organization to bring men and women together to raise awareness and offer healing to victims of sexual assault. 1 out of every 4 women and 1 out of every 6 men in America has been sexually assaulted. These are staggering numbers and there is so much yet to be done to educate in the areas of prevention and recovery.

The journey began when Smith wrote and performed her solo show T-O-T-A-L-L-Y! as a transformative work dealing with her own experience. Thanks to it’s success Smith has been able to bring her production around the country opening up the dialogue to communities and on college campuses.

Audiences have been so moved by the work that it has become Kimleigh’s mission to offer the same transformation that she experienced in her storytelling to others. Through the healing power of storytelling the aim is to educate and empower survivors to overcome their trauma through true self-expression and total transformation so they can not only survive, but thrive.

Helping people to become their own Superhero, Embrace their Capes and Take Flight! One of Kimleigh’s dreams is to bring her show to audiences and then take them through a transformational workshop to write and perform their own stories so they can reclaim their sexuality and live whole and healthy lives. What Credentials Should I look for in a Personal Stylist?

Some people have asked me what credentials to look for in a personal stylist. Many stylists have different credentials from fashion schools, to business to just downright an artistic talent and good at what they do. I have two out of the three above, plus I was personally trained by the famous Stacy London of “What Not To Wear” on TLC AND am an apprentice on contract for her company called “Style For Hire”. What does Apprentice mean? It just means they recognize my style potential and I was hand picked by Stacy and her experts but to become a full stylist, I have to log in more hours with them and shadow other SFH Stylists. In the mean time, I do my own personal styling, sell gift certificates, do virtual consults and help clean out closets, piece together outfits, shop with you and dress for every day and/or those special occasions in your life. I also do Image Consulting for companies by helping them figure out what message they are sending to their customers by what they and their employees wear and what they say or don’t say on their social media sites.
